Ironclad History Reimagined in 3D
The CSS Neuse remains one of the most compelling vessels of the American Civil War—an ambitious Confederate ironclad that, despite never fulfilling her intended combat role, gives modern historians an extraordinary window into 19th-century naval engineering under extreme resource constraints. Built on the Neuse River in North Carolina, the vessel featured a shallow-draft hull, a heavily armored sloped casemate, and twin Brooke rifles meant to challenge Union naval dominance.

Delays, material shortages, and the advance of Union forces limited her deployment, leading the crew to scuttle her to avoid capture. Today, her preserved remains and museum reconstruction continue to inspire naval enthusiasts and modelers alike.

Our 63 cm long 3D printable model brings this iconic ironclad to life with a refined balance of historical authenticity and print-friendly design. The model is approximately 1:70 scale (depending on the user’s final print settings) and is divided into over 100 separate high-quality STL files. Thanks to the multiple use of various small details and accessories, the final build can easily exceed 150 total pieces. Every component—from the sloped casemate plates to the gunport covers, deck fittings, rudder system, anchor gear, and hull structure—is designed to print easily on most standard 3D printers.

Internally, the hull is hollow yet structurally reinforced, making assembly straightforward and allowing optional uses such as lighting, cutaway displays, or even simple radio-controlled adaptations. The pieces slot together cleanly, offering a pleasant building experience suitable for both intermediate hobbyists and advanced modelers. Once completed, the model stands as a striking and historically grounded display piece—ideal for collectors, educators, reenactment groups, or naval history enthusiasts.

Whether built as a faithful museum-style reproduction or used as the base for a dramatic diorama, our CSS Neuse kit provides a richly detailed way to explore one of the Civil War’s most intriguing ironclads—reborn through modern craftsmanship and 3D printing technology.
